Danish EdTech Startup Alice Raises €4.2M to Reinvent Student Learning with AI

Danish EdTech startup Alice raises €4.2 million for personalised learning and studying platform

Copenhagen-based startup Alice has secured €4.2 million in fresh funding to supercharge its mission: turning every student into a smarter learner with the help of AI.

Founded in 2024, Alice offers a personalised, AI-powered learning platform that adapts to each student’s study style. The startup is betting that intelligent tutoring—driven by machine learning and real-time feedback—can help students learn more effectively, retain knowledge longer, and reduce academic stress.

The seed round was co-led by Cherry Ventures and Y Combinator, with backing from PSV Tech and angel investors from the US and Europe. Alice previously raised a pre-seed round led by PSV Tech last year.

“Students today need more than textbooks and lecture slides,” said Kim Rants, Alice’s CEO and co-founder. “With Alice, we’re giving them a smart, personalised study companion that helps them study better, not harder.”

Rants, a longtime educator at Copenhagen Business School with two master’s degrees, teamed up with Patrick Gadd, an Oxford-educated AI expert with over 15 years of experience, to build the platform. Together, they’re challenging the one-size-fits-all model of traditional education.

The core of Alice’s offering is its AI-driven engine, which transforms student-uploaded course materials into interactive study guides, quizzes, and personalised tutoring. Real-time performance insights help students focus where it matters, while a “Study with Friends” feature adds a collaborative twist—allowing learners to share resources and track progress together.

Early adopters are already seeing results. Marina Pasovski, a high school teacher in Denmark, is piloting Alice in two of her classes. “Students are engaged by the variety of study methods,” she said. “It’s a valuable tool for showing how AI can responsibly support—not replace—learning in the classroom.”

Since launch, Alice has expanded into 10 countries and seen 650% user growth in just four months. With this new investment, the team plans to refine its AI models, deepen partnerships with schools and universities, and scale globally—starting with Europe and the U.S.

Sophia Bendz, Partner at Cherry Ventures, sees Alice as a breakout candidate in the AI EdTech space. “They’re building something that’s not only smart but social, sticky, and scalable,” she said. “Alice could redefine how we learn.”

The startup also has support from Danish policymakers. Former Minister for Higher Education and Science Tommy Ahlers believes Alice represents a uniquely European approach to ethical AI in education. “If we want to shape the future of learning, we can’t wait for solutions to come from outside. Alice shows how we can build on Denmark’s strengths and lead from within.”

With its growing momentum and mission to modernise education, Alice is positioning itself as a frontrunner in Europe’s push to create globally competitive EdTech innovation.
