Paris EdTech Startup PyxiScience Raises €2M to Transform Math Learning with AI

Paris-based EdTech startup PyxiScience raises €2 million to innovate math learning with AI

Paris-based EdTech startup PyxiScience has secured €2 million in funding to scale its AI-powered mathematics learning platform beyond France. The round saw backing from Newfund, Invess Île-de-France Amorçage (managed by INCO Ventures), and BPI France.

Founded in 2023 by mathematicians and educators Joachim Lebovits and Jacques Lévy Véhel, PyxiScience is tackling one of education’s persistent bottlenecks: the time-consuming process of grading and personalising math instruction. Its adaptive platform combines advanced AI with deep pedagogical insight to help teachers assign, assess, and tailor math learning at scale—without replacing the human touch.

“All teachers know: frequent homework and detailed feedback are key to improvement. But with hundreds of students, that’s impossible. Our technology solves that, recognising complex handwritten math and verifying reasoning—something no AI could do before,” said co-founders Lebovits and Lévy Véhel.

The startup’s core innovation lies in its AI engine, which can interpret handwritten mathematical solutions with over 90% accuracy. Teachers can upload student work, and the platform suggests corrections—leaving final validation to the educator. This reportedly reduces grading time by a factor of 10.

Already used by over 10,000 students at institutions like Sorbonne Paris North University and NYU Paris, PyxiScience enables real-time progress tracking, personalised learning paths, and instant content creation. It’s now gearing up for international expansion, with deployments in French high schools planned for 2025 and a North American launch in early 2026.

“PyxiScience is exactly the kind of tool higher education needs—scalable support for teachers and students alike,” said Marjolaine Catil, Investment Director at Newfund. “We’re especially excited about its potential in U.S. universities.”

Co-founder Lebovits holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics and lectures at Sorbonne and NYU Paris. Lévy Véhel, an École Polytechnique graduate, previously served as research director at INRIA and founded Case Law Analytics, which was acquired by LexisNexis in 2023.

The startup is positioning itself in the €10+ billion global higher education market, with future ambitions in STEM fields and growth plans targeting China and India.

“We back tech that serves society,” added Timothée Metz, Investment Director at INCO Ventures. “PyxiScience stands out for enabling equity in education—boosting quality without displacing teachers.”

As AI continues to reshape learning, PyxiScience is emerging as a frontrunner in building tools that empower both educators and students—redefining what’s possible in math education.
