VC-backed Stockholm-based startup Agteria Biotech has rebranded as Root Bio, broadening its scope as it now describes itself as an AI discovery company designing novel molecules and proteins to solve the world’s biggest biological problems — starting with food production.
The Rebrand
The company explained the reasoning behind the change on LinkedIn: “We built Agteria to solve methane from cattle. To do it, we ran the entire molecule discovery process by hand. And once you’ve done something manually, you can automate it. So we did. What took us years by hand, our AI engine now does in weeks. That engine doesn’t care that the problem was methane. It works on any biological target. Methane was just the start. That’s why Agteria is now Root Bio.”
What This Means
The rebrand signals a shift from a single-application company solving methane emissions from cattle to a platform company applying its AI-driven molecule and protein discovery engine across biological problems more broadly. Having built and refined the discovery process manually to tackle methane, the company is now positioning that same AI engine as domain-agnostic — applicable wherever a biological target needs solving, with food production as its starting point rather than its ceiling.
