CleanTech Funding: Leonardo DiCaprio Makes His First Direct Investment in a Swedish Company, Backing Energy Subscription Startup Elvy

Hollywood actor and climate campaigner Leonardo DiCaprio has invested in Elvy, the Stockholm-based energy subscription provider formerly known as Geofy, in what the company says is his first direct investment in a Swedish company. Elvy has extended its funding round by SEK 16 million (about €1.4M / $1.6M).

The Round

Elvy would not disclose how much DiCaprio put in, saying only that it is “a large part” of the extended share issue. The valuation has not been made public. The investment is made in DiCaprio’s own name, not through a fund.

In a statement, DiCaprio said: “Elvy shows that energy efficiency can make a real difference for households while also being built into a scalable business.”

The extension follows a SEK 70 million round in May 2026 from, among others, the US investors Daft Capital and Essential Capital, as reported by Dagens industri. DiCaprio has previously invested in climate-focused companies mainly in the US, including Beyond Meat and Polestar, and through funds such as Regeneration VC, which recently backed Swedish company Ecom ID.

What Elvy Does

Founded in 2023, Elvy offers households an energy subscription: a fixed but individually set price, paid for 15 years, covering home electricity and heating. At the same time, Elvy installs solar panels, a heat pump and a battery system from various suppliers at the customer’s home, and pays for them.

At the end of 2025 the company secured SEK 5.5 billion in credit facilities, enough to finance a rollout to up to 15,000 households. Alongside that debt, it has raised pure venture capital to fund day-to-day operations.

Growth

In May, CEO and co-founder Johan Outinen said Elvy had signed contracts with more than 1,000 customers, though not all were fully installed. Its website now says 1,800 households have joined.

“Since the summer we have had our highest growth rate so far. We are growing by about 25 percent month over month, both in the number of subscriptions signed and completed installations,” Outinen said, adding that DiCaprio’s investment is a confirmation of the company’s global potential.

Elvy’s forecast for 2026 is revenue of SEK 400–500 million, roughly four to five times last year’s. “But with the development we are seeing right now, we expect to land somewhat above that target,” Outinen said.
