Serbian-Hungarian InsurTech Ominimo Becomes a Unicorn with €20.1M Series B Round

BELGRADE, Serbia / BUDAPEST, Hungary — Ominimo, a fast-growing InsurTech startup specializing in AI-powered motor insurance, has raised €20.1 million in a Series B funding round led by the venture capital arm of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The investment values the company at €1.4 billion, officially making Ominimo one of Europe’s newest unicorns just two years after its launch.

Already profitable, the company plans to use the new funding to accelerate expansion rather than finance daily operations, including securing its own insurance licence, entering new international markets, launching in the United States, expanding its product portfolio, and strengthening its AI and engineering teams.

Reinventing Motor Insurance with AI

Founded in 2024 by Dusan KomarDennis Weinbender, and Laslo Horvath, Ominimo develops motor insurance products powered by highly segmented, data-driven pricing models and proprietary insurance software.

The company combines insurance expertise, artificial intelligence, data science, and software engineering to improve underwriting accuracy, automate insurance operations, and simplify the customer experience.

Rather than relying on traditional pricing methods, Ominimo uses advanced analytics to assess risk more precisely, enabling more personalized and competitive insurance products.

From Startup to Unicorn in Two Years

The latest funding round represents another remarkable milestone in Ominimo’s rapid growth.

In 2025, the startup completed its Series A financing at a €200 million valuation, only one year after launching its first products. During that round, Zurich Insurance joined the company as both a strategic distribution partner and minority shareholder.

Just twelve months later, Ominimo has increased its valuation sevenfold to €1.4 billion, becoming one of the fastest-growing InsurTech companies in Europe.

Strong Revenue Growth

The company reports exceptional business momentum since entering the market.

Its annualized gross written premium (GWP) run rate has grown from approximately €26 million in 2024 to €158 million in 2025, and has now reached roughly €307 million, reflecting rapid customer adoption across multiple European markets.

Unlike many high-growth startups, Ominimo is already operating profitably while continuing to expand internationally.

Expanding Across Europe and Preparing for the US

Ominimo launched its operations in Hungary before expanding into Polandthe Netherlands, and Sweden.

The company is now preparing to enter additional markets, including BelgiumRomaniaSpainItaly, and France, while also laying the groundwork for its first United States launch, planned for 2027.

A key strategic priority is obtaining its own insurance licence, allowing the company to operate as a fully licensed insurer rather than relying on external underwriting partners.

Investing in AI Talent

Technology remains at the core of Ominimo’s competitive advantage.

The company employs around 130 people, with nearly two-thirds of its workforce focused on software development and data science. Its technical team includes eight International Mathematics Olympiad medalists and one International Physics Olympiad medalist, highlighting its emphasis on advanced quantitative expertise.

Ominimo plans to expand its workforce to approximately 150 employees by the end of the year, with continued investment in AI, engineering, and product development.

A Rising European FinTech Success Story

Ominimo’s rapid ascent underscores the growing strength of Central and Eastern Europe’s startup ecosystem, particularly in financial technology and artificial intelligence.

By combining advanced data science with proprietary insurance technology, the company is positioning itself to compete with both traditional insurers and digital-first InsurTech platforms on a global scale.

With unicorn status secured, profitable operations, and ambitious international expansion plans, Ominimo is emerging as one of Europe’s most closely watched FinTech companies as it prepares for its next stage of growth.
