CLCircular becomes a B Corp: IoT-powered logistics startup redefining circular supply chains

CLCircular, a Bilbao-based logistics technology company specializing in connected reusable sensors for supply chain monitoring, has officially become a B Corp-certified organization, marking a significant milestone for sustainability-driven innovation in logistics tech.

The certification recognizes companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, assessed by the non-profit organization B Lab.

With this achievement, CLCircular becomes the first logistics monitoring company using IoT sensing technology to reach B Corp status.

Circular IoT model built on reuse and reverse logistics

Founded in 2020, CLCircular developed a sensor-as-a-service model built around reusable IoT devices that are rented, recovered after each shipment, refurbished, and redeployed.

Unlike traditional single-use tracking hardware, the company operates a full reverse logistics system dedicated to retrieving devices globally. Its platform supports operations across more than 400 international destinations, serving clients such as Del Monte, Freskura, and Axionlog.

This circular approach reduces electronic waste while making advanced monitoring technology more accessible across supply chains transporting both high-value and perishable goods.

Sustainability impact through reuse and efficiency

CLCircular reports a sensor recovery rate above 85%, which has contributed to avoiding approximately 191,557 kg of CO₂-equivalent emissions in 2025, primarily through device reuse and reduced manufacturing demand.

In addition to direct environmental benefits, the company’s IoT system improves logistics performance by tracking temperature, humidity, light exposure, and location in real time. This helps reduce cargo losses, improve transport security, and increase operational efficiency.

B Corp certification and governance standards

The B Corp certification evaluates companies across five key impact areas:

  • Governance
  • Workers
  • Community
  • Environment
  • Customers

Certification is awarded by B Lab after a rigorous verification process that also requires companies to embed social purpose into their legal structure.

According to B Lab Spain, CLCircular joins a global network of more than 10,000 certified B Corps working to promote more inclusive and sustainable economic systems.

Leadership perspective

CLCircular CEO Iñigo Alonso Echevarría described the certification as validation of the company’s mission:

“We strongly believe that technology must be a driver of positive change, and that an IoT company can generate real sustainability impact by redefining its business model.”

Expanding footprint across global supply chains

Beyond Spain, CLCircular operates internationally with teams located in the Netherlands, Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Guatemala, supporting its growing logistics monitoring network.

Its model reflects a broader shift in logistics technology toward data-driven sustainability, where monitoring tools not only track goods but also actively reduce environmental impact through circular design principles.

Conclusion

CLCircular’s B Corp certification highlights a growing convergence between IoT innovation and circular economy principles in logistics. By combining reusable hardware, global reverse logistics, and real-time supply chain intelligence, the company demonstrates how monitoring technologies can evolve from passive tracking tools into active sustainability enablers.

As supply chains face increasing pressure to decarbonize and reduce waste, circular IoT models like CLCircular’s may become a blueprint for the next generation of logistics infrastructure.
