Startup Profile: AloFor Is Building a Global Travel-eSIM Business from Romania — Without Owning a Network

Romanian travel-technology company AloFor wants to make one of travel’s smaller but persistent frustrations disappear: figuring out mobile data the moment you land somewhere new. Founded by Lebanese entrepreneur Ahmad Khodr and publicly launched in July 2026, AloFor sells prepaid travel eSIM data plans covering more than 200 destinations worldwide, available through the web, Apple App Store, and Google Play.

The Problem

International roaming can be expensive, buying a physical SIM after arrival adds friction, and comparing travel-data offers across providers is often confusing. AloFor’s answer is to collapse the entire process into a single digital flow: destination search, plan comparison, secure payment, eSIM delivery, installation guidance, and support, all inside one app.

The product walks travelers through a simple sequence — choose a destination, pick a data plan by comparing allowance, validity, and price, sign in to link the order and eSIM to an account, and pay securely through Stripe before receiving QR and manual activation details directly in the app. Once purchased, eSIMs and order history stay manageable from within AloFor, letting travelers connect abroad without swapping a physical SIM card.

The Business Model

The more interesting part of AloFor’s story, from a startup-building perspective, is what it deliberately doesn’t own: a mobile network. AloFor works with international eSIM infrastructure partners and aggregators, building the software, retail, pricing, provisioning, and customer-experience layer that sits above the underlying connectivity providers. The challenge — and the company’s core bet — is making multiple underlying systems feel like one simple, reliable product to the traveler, without ever operating radio infrastructure itself.

Pricing plans start from $1 in selected destinations, with examples including 500MB/7 days in the United States from $1, unlimited 1-day access in Romania from $1, 1GB/7 days in Türkiye from $1, unlimited 1-day access in Saudi Arabia from $1.90, regional Europe plans from $1, and Global plans from $8.90. Pricing and availability are live and can vary by destination and underlying provider. The product currently supports English, Romanian, Arabic, Italian, and Spanish.

Traction and Funding

AloFor has been bootstrapped and funded by its founder to date, with no external investors currently publicly announced. Since its public launch in July 2026, the company reports passing 1,000 new users during its early growth period.

What’s Next

AloFor says it’s currently focused on improving catalog quality, diversifying its supplier base, expanding multilingual support, and increasing successful activation and repeat purchasing, while evaluating affiliate, travel-industry, and B2B distribution opportunities as it looks to scale further within the increasingly crowded travel-eSIM market.
