Stockholm-based Kleer, an AI-driven finance and payroll platform formerly known as PE Accounting, has acquired fellow Stockholm startup Plock, a solution for usage-based billing and subscription management, in a deal aimed at bolting together real-time financial control for SaaS and AI companies.
The Deal
Kleer and Plock have completed the transaction and are now joining forces with the ambition of becoming the go-to platform for how SaaS and AI companies manage and grow their operations. Kleer is a market leader in finance and payroll for tech companies, while Plock gives its customers control over contracts, recurring revenue, and transaction-based business models — an area becoming increasingly critical as AI gets built into every piece of software.
“This is a strategic acquisition in our ambition to build the best possible solution for SaaS and AI companies. Together, Kleer and Plock can become a kind of operating system for SaaS and AI companies,” said Pontus Björnsson, CEO of Kleer.
The ambition is to more than double Plock’s customer base over the coming year. Plock will continue operating under its own brand and will keep selling independently to companies running other finance systems besides Kleer. All employees retain their roles.
Carl Holmquist, co-founder of Plock, explained the strategic logic behind joining Kleer specifically: “When we started Plock, we thought CRM was the system closest to subscription management. It turned out that the biggest customer value is actually created in the connection to the finance system. Kleer is the finance system we think is best to integrate with. By joining forces, Plock becomes even more relevant for our customers.”
Why It Makes Sense
The industry trend is moving toward a simpler tech stack — fewer systems serving as the actual source of truth, complemented by agents and lighter auxiliary tools rather than more heavy applications. The acquisition allows two of the most important sources of truth for a SaaS or AI company — contracts and expected revenue from Plock, and actual revenue and costs from Kleer — to be merged into one.
The result: a leadership team can see its most important SaaS metrics, both revenue and costs, alongside its income statement and headcount overview, in real time, instead of waiting for a manual monthly compilation.
“SaaS and AI companies have rapidly changing pricing models. Support for variable pricing components in particular is critical as AI gets built into every product. We’re very impressed by the functional leadership Plock has built in this area,” Björnsson added.
