CleanTech News: NextOcean to Outfit ESVAGT NJORD with WavePredictor Motion-Prediction Technology

Delft-based NextOcean, a provider of offshore vessel motion prediction technology, has been awarded a contract to supply its WavePredictor system, both hardware and software, to the ESVAGT NJORD, a dedicated Service Operations Vessel (SOV) commissioned by Danish shipping company ESVAGT.

NextOcean to Outfit ESVAGT NJORD with WavePredictor Motion-Prediction Technology

The Contract

The system will support safer, more efficient offshore operations as the vessel continues its operation and maintenance work at the Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm. The motion radar and its accompanying software are scheduled to be installed on the SOV this month.

What WavePredictor Does

NextOcean’s WavePredictor is designed to give crews advance insight into real-time vessel motions, enabling safer transfers and improved decision-making in challenging sea states. Its deployment on the ESVAGT NJORD extends NextOcean’s footprint in the Offshore Service Vessel segment, with the company’s systems now supporting operations on vessels around the world.

Karel Roozen, CEO of NextOcean, explained the practical value the system brings to day-to-day operations: “On an SOV, the crew makes dozens of go/no-go calls a day. Our system shows the officer on watch what the vessel is going to do in the coming minutes, so that call is backed by verified predictions and not by feel alone. On a field like Dudgeon, where technicians need to get onto the turbine as often as the weather allows, that means both safer transfers and more workable days.”

About NextOcean

Headquartered in Delft, NextOcean originates from a Delft University PhD research project by Dr. Peter Naaijen, and was later founded as a company in 2016 together with Karel Roozen. The company provides offshore vessel motion prediction technology, helping operators improve safety, efficiency, and decision-making in demanding weather and sea states.

About ESVAGT

ESVAGT is a Danish shipping company and a leader in both the wind and oil and gas industries, founded in 1981. It operates a fleet of modern offshore support vessels with professional crews trained for operations in harsh weather conditions, with more than 40 vessels and 1,400 skilled employees engaged offshore and onshore.
