Swedish Government Selects Intric's Sovereign AI Platform for Secure Public Sector AI

Stockholm-based AI startup Intric has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Government Offices to provide its sovereign AI platform, enabling government employees to build and operate AI assistants using sensitive government data without relying on foreign cloud infrastructure.

The agreement marks a significant milestone for the Swedish startup and reflects the growing demand across Europe for AI solutions that prioritize digital sovereignty, security, and regulatory compliance.

Bringing Sovereign AI to Government

Under the agreement, employees across the Swedish Government Offices will be able to create and deploy AI assistants on the organization’s own data while maintaining full governance and operational control.

Intric’s platform can be deployed either as a cloud service hosted on Swedish infrastructure or as an on-premises installation, allowing government agencies to choose the deployment model that best meets their security requirements.

According to David Wallén, CEO of Intric, artificial intelligence has become essential for improving public sector productivity.

“Tomorrow’s workplace needs AI. When the public sector is expected to deliver more with fewer resources, it becomes critical to streamline administrative and less value-creating tasks. That’s where AI can make a real difference.”

AI Without Foreign Cloud Dependence

A defining feature of Intric’s platform is its focus on AI sovereignty. Rather than relying on international cloud providers, the platform operates entirely on Swedish infrastructure, giving organizations complete control over where their data resides and how it is managed.

This is particularly important for the Swedish Government Offices, which manage government decisions, policy documents, communications between ministries, and information protected under Sweden’s Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act.

“The Government Offices are the heart of Swedish public administration, with responsibility for information that cannot be handled in systems where anyone other than the Swedish state has technical or legal control,” Wallén said.

He added that sovereign AI is no longer simply a technical preference but a strategic requirement for critical public infrastructure.

“When the Government Offices choose a sovereign solution, they signal that AI infrastructure for sensitive operations must meet the same requirements for control and sovereignty as all other critical systems.”

Expanding Across Europe’s Public Sector

The procurement represents Intric’s first contract with the Swedish Government Offices, further expanding the company’s footprint within government institutions.

Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Stockholm, Intric develops AI infrastructure designed specifically for governments, public agencies, and highly regulated organizations. The company says its platform is already deployed across several public institutions in the Nordic region and Germany.

As European governments increasingly prioritize data sovereignty, AI governance, and compliance with evolving digital regulations, demand for sovereign AI platforms is expected to accelerate.

A Growing Market for Sovereign AI

The contract reflects a broader trend across Europe, where governments and critical industries are seeking alternatives to AI services hosted on foreign cloud infrastructure. Organizations handling sensitive or classified information increasingly require solutions that guarantee data residency, legal jurisdiction, and operational control.

By combining generative AI capabilities with sovereign infrastructure, Intric is positioning itself at the intersection of AI innovation, cybersecurity, and digital sovereignty—a market expected to grow as public sector AI adoption continues across Europe.
