Lund-based Nordic Forestry Automation (NFA) has raised SEK 48 million (approximately €4.3 million / $5 million)in one of the largest funding rounds ever secured by a Swedish forestry technology startup.
The investment was led by existing backer Navigare Ventures alongside new investor Almi Invest GreenTech. The round also brings LRF Ventures onboard as a new minority shareholder, while existing investors Sveaskog, Södra Skogsägarna, and Almi Invest Syd participated in the financing.
The new capital will support NFA’s global expansion and accelerate development of its next-generation software for semi-autonomous forestry machinery.
Bringing Physical AI to Forestry
Nordic Forestry Automation develops advanced operator support systems that use physical AI, sensor fusion, and robotics to improve precision and productivity in forestry operations.
Its proprietary software enables harvesting machines to measure trees in real time, providing operators with continuous decision support while working in the field.
The company’s first commercial product, designed for thinning operations, is already deployed in commercial forestry across seven markets on three continents.
NFA is now developing the next generation of its platform, including tree species recognition, stem shape measurement, and semi-autonomous machine capabilities.
AI Built on Real-World Forestry Data
Unlike many AI companies that rely primarily on simulations, NFA has built its technology using extensive operational data collected from active forestry environments.
To date, its systems have completed more than 20,000 operational hours across approximately a dozen different harvester models.
The company works with major forestry organizations in Sweden, the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the Baltic region. Customers include Sveaskog, Södra Skogsägarna, Holmen, and U.S.-based Weyerhaeuser, one of the world’s largest private forest owners.
Improving Productivity and Sustainability
Forestry operators face increasing pressure to maximize productivity while meeting sustainability targets and adapting to varying forest conditions.
NFA’s technology helps operators make more precise harvesting decisions in real time, improving timber utilization, increasing forest growth potential, and reducing unnecessary strain on machine operators.
“The development of operator support and automation is moving rapidly across all vehicle types, and NFA is leading the way in forest machinery,” said Lars Svensson, CEO and co-founder of Nordic Forestry Automation.
Major Vote of Confidence
The SEK 48 million financing represents one of Sweden’s largest investments in a forestry technology startup, underscoring growing investor confidence in AI-powered industrial automation.
According to Almi Invest GreenTech, the investment aligns with its strategy of backing technologies that deliver both strong commercial value and measurable climate impact by improving resource efficiency and sustainable forest management.
Global Expansion Ahead
With fresh funding secured, NFA plans to accelerate international expansion while advancing its roadmap toward increasingly autonomous forestry machinery.
As AI moves beyond software into physical industrial applications, Nordic Forestry Automation is positioning itself at the forefront of a new generation of intelligent machines designed to modernize one of the world’s oldest industries.
