FinTech Funding: Solva Secures $6M to Rebuild Insurance Claims with AI, Backed by Paul Graham

Stockholm and New York-based startup Solva, building AI for better insurance outcomes, has raised $6 million in a first funding round from First Round, Y Combinator, SV Angel, and angel investors including Paul Graham. The round surfaced not through a press release but through a job ad first spotted by Breakit.

The Round

Solva’s backers have previously funded companies including OpenAI, Google, Stripe, Anthropic, Databricks, and GitHub. The startup is part of Y Combinator’s Summer 2025 batch and, per its own hiring materials, has emerged as one of the fastest-growing and best-funded companies in that cohort. It also has an advisory board made up of experienced insurance executives and founders.

Solva was first covered in PRO back in August 2025.

What Solva Is Building

Solva is building AI for insurers to transform what it calls an $8 trillion industry, starting with claims. The founding team previously helped build one of Europe’s fastest-growing InsurTech companies and founded a licensed EU bank processing more than €1 billion a year in payments — experience the company is now applying to rebuilding insurance claims decision-making from the ground up with AI.

According to a founding engineer job posting, the team is working on production systems that inform claims decisions worth multiple billions, built on a stack spanning Go, Python, Postgres, GCP/AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform for infrastructure, with React, Vite, and TypeScript on the frontend. The company says it’s building AI security and accountability practices largely from scratch, given the lack of established standards for AI in high-stakes claims decisions.

What’s Next

Solva is actively hiring engineers in New York as it scales its core product and expands its engineering team, with the company describing early hires as taking on a genuine ownership role in shaping both the technical direction and the company’s engineering culture.
