Valencia-based molecular diagnostics company iPremom, focused on the early identification of pregnancy complications, has raised €15 million in Seed funding to support clinical validation and commercial rollout of its MaiRa platform, which analyses early signals of first-trimester pregnancy complications through a blood test.
The Round
The round was led by Amadeus Capital Partners, with participation from Asabys Partners and APEX Ventures.
Professor Carlos Simón, co-founder and Chairman of iPremom, framed the ambition behind the funding: “Pregnancy complications have been under-diagnosed and under-treated for generations, because the field was looking in the wrong place at the wrong time. Our ambition is not just to build a better preeclampsia test, it is to give every pregnant woman a comprehensive, early molecular picture of her pregnancy. This funding is a critical step toward making that a clinical reality.”

Part of a Busy European Diagnostics Wave
The round lands amid a relatively active year for European investment in molecular diagnostics, women’s health, and earlier disease detection. EU-Startups has tracked approximately €35.8 million across a selected group of adjacent financings in 2026, including €5 million for Paris-based En Carta Diagnostics’ at-home molecular testing platform, €1.1 million for Germany’s Intu Diagnostics, whose first application focuses on HPV testing in women’s health, €1.7 million for Zurich-based KOVE Medical to reduce preterm-birth risks following foetal surgery, and €5.2 million for menstrual-health company DITTO. AI- and biomarker-led diagnostics have also attracted capital, including €2.8 million for Moonlight AI and €17.1 million for preventive-health platform Lucis. In Spain specifically, Barcelona-based Health Lean Analytics has raised more than €2.1 million for hospital-focused HealthTech, marking the closest domestic peer to iPremom.
The Technology
Founded in 2019, iPremom is a MedTech company based in Valencia dedicated to the early prediction and prevention of pregnancy complications through molecular diagnostics and AI-based predictive models. Its MaiRa platform is built on more than a decade of research by co-founders Professor Carlos Simón, MD, PhD, Chairman of iPremom, and Dr. Tamara Garrido, Chief Scientific Officer. Their work shows that molecular signals linked to pregnancy complications can be detected in maternal blood from the first trimester, well before clinical symptoms appear.
In preeclampsia, for example, this is linked to decidualisation resistance, where the uterine lining doesn’t develop as expected, leaving a detectable cell-free RNA (cfRNA) signal in the blood as early as 9 to 14 weeks into pregnancy. Using a single blood sample, clinicians can use MaiRa to analyse cfRNA and apply predictive modelling to assess risk across a range of pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia, months before symptoms appear.
The platform has been developed using real-life patient data from more than 26,000 samples linked to 10,000 pregnancies, part of the PREMOM study — one of Spain’s largest prospective clinical trials. This dataset is already helping identify molecular signals linked to a broader set of complications, which will be added to the platform over time.
The Problem
According to data provided by the company, pregnancy complications remain a major challenge for families and health systems worldwide, contributing to 260,000 maternal deaths, nearly 2 million stillbirths at 28 weeks or more of gestation, and 2.3 million deaths of children in their first month of life annually.
Preeclampsia alone now affects 5 to 8% of all pregnancies globally, while pre-term birth, foetal growth restriction, and gestational diabetes place further strain on families and health systems. Despite this burden, iPremom believes current diagnostic tools often only identify risks after complications have already begun to develop — the gap MaiRa is designed to close.
What’s Next
The company is now preparing for further regulatory approvals in the EU and USA as it moves toward wider clinical and commercial rollout.
