Swedish ClimateTech startup Wayout International has raised SEK 26.6 million (€2.4 million / $2.7 million) in an oversubscribed Series A extension to accelerate the commercial deployment of its distributed drinking water infrastructure platform. The funding round attracted both existing shareholders and new strategic investors with deep industry expertise, underscoring growing confidence in the company’s vision for sustainable water infrastructure.
Founded in 2018, Wayout is rethinking how safe drinking water is produced and distributed. Instead of relying on centralized treatment plants and long-distance transportation, the company’s modular platform enables communities and businesses to produce drinking water locally from a wide range of water sources.
Its solution combines advanced purification technology, controlled mineralization, reusable logistics, smart dispensing systems, and real-time digital monitoring into a single integrated infrastructure platform. The approach addresses several global challenges simultaneously, including water scarcity, aging infrastructure, plastic pollution, transportation costs, and carbon emissions.
According to founder and CEO Ulf Stenerhag, the new investment marks a transition from technology validation to commercial rollout.
The fresh capital will be used to:
- Launch the company’s first commercial deployments.
- Further industrialize the platform.
- Expand strategic partnerships.
- Accelerate international expansion.
Wayout reports a growing commercial pipeline across Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, with initial commercial orders expected in the near future.
The company has also strengthened its leadership team by appointing Matthias Riehle, former Chairman and CEO of Nestlé Waters Middle East & Asia, as Working Chairman to support its next stage of global growth.
As climate change, population growth, and water scarcity continue to place pressure on traditional infrastructure, decentralized water production is emerging as a promising alternative. Wayout’s technology aims to make clean drinking water more resilient, locally available, and environmentally sustainable while significantly reducing dependence on bottled water and single-use plastics.
With fresh funding secured and commercial expansion underway, Wayout is positioning itself among Europe’s most promising ClimateTech companies tackling one of the world’s most critical infrastructure challenges.
