VSParticle Secures €6.5 Million to Revolutionize Material Discovery

Delft-based VSParticle (VSP), a pioneer in nanoparticle synthesis and deposition, has secured €6.5 million in an A2 extension round led by NordicNinja, with continued support from Plural and Hermann Hauser Investment. This funding brings VSP’s total capital to €24.5 million and aims to accelerate material innovation over the next decade.

VSP’s cutting-edge technology allows for the rapid creation of nanoparticles, enabling university researchers and commercial R&D teams to develop new materials efficiently. Traditional material discovery can take up to 15 years, but VSP’s advancements promise to cut this timeline down to just one year.

The recent investment will bolster the development of VSP’s next-generation printers, which will offer up to 100 times higher output. Additionally, VSP plans to expand its reach to Japan while strengthening its presence in the US and Europe.

“Our technology empowers researchers and R&D teams globally to create transformative materials, crucial for green hydrogen production and reducing emissions in carbon-intensive industries,” said Aaike van Vugt, VSP’s co-founder and CEO.

Over the past year, VSP has delivered its flagship VSP-P1 Nanoprinter to institutions across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Notable recipients include Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in San Francisco, the Materials Discovery Research Institute in Chicago, and the Dutch Institute for Fundamental Energy Research.

VSP’s technology plays a vital role in the mass production of catalyst-coated Porous Transport Layers (PTLs), essential components in electrolyzers for green hydrogen production. This innovation promises significant savings in scarce metals like iridium and expedites the development of new material combinations, making green hydrogen more affordable and accessible.

By 2027, components developed using VSP’s technology are expected to enter the market, supporting sustainable energy solutions across various industries, including shipping, transport, heating, and aviation.

“VSParticle’s technology is revolutionizing material innovation. Combined with AI, it paves the way for groundbreaking discoveries in the coming decades,” remarked Rainer Sternfeld, Partner at NordicNinja.

Sten Tamkivi, Partner at Plural, emphasized the urgency of accelerating material discovery to address global challenges. “VSParticle is at the forefront of this critical early-stage innovation, enabling faster experimentation and development of next-generation materials.”

With this significant investment, VSP is poised to lead the charge in material science, driving sustainable advancements and transforming industries worldwide.
