UK HealthTech Startup Nul Raises €840K Seed Funding to Modernize Alcohol Reduction Treatment

LONDON, United Kingdom — HealthTech startup Nul has secured nearly €840,000 ($1 million) in seed funding to expand its digital platform aimed at helping people reduce alcohol consumption through evidence-based clinical care, prescription medication, and behavioral support.

The funding round was led by dmg ventures, the venture capital arm of Daily Mail and General Trust, alongside BYVP and a group of angel investors with expertise across healthcare, technology, and consumer brands.

The investment will support Nul’s commercial rollout across the UK, expansion of its clinical and product teams, customer acquisition efforts, and preparations for international growth, including a planned entry into the United States.

“Alcohol reduction is one of the largest and least modernized areas in healthcare,” said Matus Maar, founder and CEO of Nul. “Telehealth and online pharmacy platforms have transformed categories like weight loss and mental health, yet alcohol has been left behind despite the scale of the problem. Nul is about making evidence-based treatment accessible, discreet, and compatible with real life.”

Founded by Maar, who previously co-founded venture capital firm Talis Capital, Nul is building a digital healthcare platform focused on helping individuals reduce alcohol dependence and improve their relationship with alcohol without requiring traditional in-person treatment pathways.

Bringing Telehealth Innovation to Alcohol Care

While telemedicine has rapidly expanded across areas such as mental health, chronic disease management, and weight-loss treatment, alcohol reduction services have remained relatively underserved by modern digital healthcare models.

Nul aims to close that gap through a subscription-based platform that combines remote medical consultations, prescription treatment, ongoing clinical oversight, and structured behavioral support.

At the center of the company’s approach is naltrexone, a medication approved for the treatment of alcohol use disorder (AUD) and opioid use disorder (OUD). The medication works by influencing the brain’s reward system, helping reduce cravings and diminish the reinforcing effects of alcohol consumption.

Nul’s treatment pathway incorporates the principles of the Sinclair Method, a clinical approach that combines targeted medication use with behavioral change strategies to help individuals gradually reduce alcohol consumption over time.

The company’s service is delivered entirely online, allowing patients to access consultations, treatment plans, and support remotely from their homes.

Addressing a Major Public Health Challenge

Alcohol misuse remains one of the most significant public health challenges across the UK and many developed markets.

Despite growing awareness around wellness, preventive healthcare, and mental health, access to evidence-based alcohol reduction programs often remains limited, stigmatized, or difficult to navigate.

Nul believes many people seeking support do not necessarily identify with traditional addiction treatment pathways and are instead looking for flexible, discreet solutions that fit into their everyday lives.

The startup’s model is designed to meet this demand by providing clinically supervised care through a digital-first experience that prioritizes accessibility and convenience.

Early Market Traction

The company launched an initial UK pilot phase during the summer of 2025 and reports encouraging early results.

According to Nul, more than 120 paying customers have joined the platform during its initial rollout. The company also reports reaching an annualized revenue run rate of more than £300,000 (€344,000) within its first months of operation, driven primarily through organic customer acquisition and referrals.

This early traction has helped validate demand for digital alcohol reduction services and provided momentum for the company’s broader commercial launch.

Nul currently works with healthcare partners including Blueco Healthcare and Thriva to support the delivery of its clinical services.

Growing Investor Interest in Digital Preventive Healthcare

Investors are increasingly backing healthcare platforms that focus on prevention, behavior change, and long-term wellness rather than solely treating acute medical conditions.

Digital health startups addressing areas such as mental wellbeing, metabolic health, longevity, and lifestyle-related conditions have attracted significant funding in recent years as consumers become more proactive about managing their health.

Nul sits at the intersection of several growing trends, including telehealth, digital therapeutics, behavioral healthcare, and personalized medicine.

“Nul’s mission to empower individuals to take control of their relationship with alcohol is both timely and transformative,” said Rachel Muzyczka, Partner at dmg ventures. “Their approach is innovative and aligns with the growing demand for healthier lifestyles.”

Preparing for Expansion

In addition to the seed funding, Nul plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign through Republic Europe, allowing retail investors to participate in the company’s growth journey.

The startup also expects to raise additional funding later in 2026 as it scales operations in the UK and expands into international markets.

With increasing awareness of alcohol’s impact on long-term health, growing demand for digital healthcare services, and rising consumer interest in wellness-focused lifestyles, Nul believes it is entering the market at a pivotal moment.

The company is betting that alcohol reduction will become the next major category transformed by telehealth, following the rapid growth seen in online mental health services, digital therapeutics, and remote metabolic health programs.

By combining clinical expertise, prescription treatment, and technology-enabled support, Nul aims to make evidence-based alcohol reduction care more accessible to people seeking healthier lifestyles and better long-term health outcomes.
