After nearly 20 years of promoting evidence-based nutrition and metabolic health, Stockholm-based Diet Doctor has filed for bankruptcy following several difficult years and a funding round that ultimately failed to close.
The announcement was made by founder and CEO Andreas Eenfeldt, who confirmed that the company behind both Diet Doctor and the nutrition app Hava has entered bankruptcy proceedings.
Funding Round Falls Through
According to Eenfeldt, the company had been working to secure new investment but was unable to finalize the funding round in time.
“After several challenging years, and a funding round we were unable to close, our company has been declared bankrupt,” he said in a message shared with subscribers.
The bankruptcy brings an uncertain future for one of Sweden’s longest-running digital health companies, which built a global audience around low-carb nutrition, metabolic health, and science-based dietary guidance.
Services Continue—For Now
Although the company has entered bankruptcy, both Diet Doctor and Hava remain operational for the time being.
A court-appointed bankruptcy trustee has taken control of the business and is seeking a buyer that could acquire the company’s websites, mobile applications, and other assets.
If a buyer is found quickly, users may experience little or no interruption. However, if no acquisition takes place, both services could be shut down with limited notice.
Subscribers Encouraged to Cancel
Because of the uncertainty surrounding the company’s future, subscribers have been advised to cancel their memberships if they wish to avoid future charges.
Customers who subscribed through Apple or Google can cancel via their respective app stores, while users who subscribed directly through the company’s websites can cancel within their account settings.
Existing subscribers will retain access until the end of their already-paid subscription period.
The company also noted that refunds cannot be guaranteed, as financial decisions are now controlled by the bankruptcy trustee.
Users Asked to Save Their Data
Diet Doctor warned users that it currently has no automated data export feature.
Subscribers who wish to keep information such as weight history, notes, or other personal tracking data are encouraged to save it manually while the platforms remain online.
If the services ultimately shut down, that data may become permanently inaccessible.
A Pioneer in Digital Nutrition
Founded in Stockholm almost two decades ago, Diet Doctor became one of Europe’s best-known digital nutrition platforms by advocating lower-carbohydrate eating as an approach to weight management and metabolic health.
More recently, the company expanded its portfolio with Hava, an app built around a satiety-focused nutritional philosophy that emphasizes food quality and fullness rather than calorie counting.
Over the years, the business attracted a global subscriber base through educational content, meal planning tools, recipes, coaching, and personalized health guidance.
Looking for a New Owner
Despite the bankruptcy, founder Andreas Eenfeldt expressed hope that both Diet Doctor and Hava can continue under new ownership.
He has invited interested companies and investors to contact him regarding a potential acquisition of the platforms, preserving the services for existing users and continuing the company’s mission of improving metabolic health.
Whether a buyer emerges will determine if one of Sweden’s earliest digital HealthTech success stories receives a second chapter—or comes to an end after nearly two decades of operation.
