SGKB’s Startup Prize gets a new addition

The St. Galler Kantonalbank’s prize for young companies is getting a little brother: in addition to the Diamond start-up field, the Rough Diamond will now be awarded for start-ups in the idea phase. The jury has also grown: Bettina Hein, known from “Die Höhle der Löwen”, is a new member.

The Startfeld Diamond has existed for ten years. With the creation of an additional prize for young companies that are still in the idea phase, the St. Galler Kantonalbank is strengthening its commitment. Christian Schmid, President of the Executive Board of SGKB: “With the diamond in the rough, we want to specifically address ideas and projects from the environment of technical colleges and universities.” Start-ups with planned headquarters in Eastern Switzerland that have not yet been founded or are no more than four years old can take part. The six finalists will be supported with advice and training, and they will have access to a broad knowledge and contact network throughout Eastern Switzerland.

Prize money increased

The prize money will be increased with the creation of the newcomer prize “Rohdiamant” and will now amount to 30,000 Swiss francs for the winner of the Startfeld Diamant, 10,000 Swiss francs for the winner of the Rohdiamant, 5,000 Swiss francs each for the other four finalists and 2,500 Swiss francs for the winner of the Audience Award.

New jury member

The top-class jury will be joined by Bettina Hein, founder and CEO of juli and a juror on “Die Höhle der Löwen”.

Call for entries for 2022 is open

Interested start-ups can apply for the competition from mid-November 2021. The closing date for entries is 23 January 2022. All templates and contact details for submitting dossiers can be found at www.sgkb.ch/startfelddiamant.
