Berlin, Germany – Venture capital firm Revent has launched its second fund, a €100 million vehicle aimed at supporting early-stage European startups focused on solving critical societal and environmental challenges.
Founded in 2021 by Lauren Lentz and Otto Birnbaum, Revent positions itself as a home for founders with a “dual ambition”—those who want to build companies that are both profitable and purposeful. Their focus: mission-driven startups working in areas such as energy transition, healthcare innovation, industrial decarbonisation, and reskilling.
Backed by Major Institutions
Fund II is supported by prominent backers including the Otto Group, Goldbeck, Wepa, Arendt Oetker, and the European Investment Fund, which increased its commitment following Fund I’s success.
“Revent was built for founders who aim not just for scale, but for impact,” said Lentz. “We’re looking for those who are building the future—companies that make a real difference in people’s lives and the planet.”
Track Record of Impact
Revent’s first fund helped launch several high-impact startups:
-
Avelios Medical (Munich): A new operating system for hospitals, recently backed by Sequoia.
-
Tem Energy (Berlin): Software for affordable access to renewable energy, backed by Atomico.
-
Sylvera (London): A ratings and data platform for carbon credits, with investment led by Balderton.
-
Granular Energy (Paris): Provides 24/7 certification for energy origin, supported by Norrsken.
Measuring Real Impact
A key innovation in Fund II is the Real Value Framework (RVF), a proprietary tool designed to estimate the societal value a startup can create—specifically in terms of human and natural capital.
“With RVF, we can quantify the societal value startups generate,” explained Birnbaum. “We aim to back companies that can create more than €100 million per year in societal value and scale to €100 million in revenue within 6 to 8 years. That’s how we deliver outsized returns.”
Strong Early Performance
Revent reports that its first fund is already performing in the top 10% globally, according to Cambridge Associates’ VC benchmarking. The firm continues to attract talent and capital by aligning financial returns with long-term impact.
Takeaway: Revent is doubling down on its mission to fund startups that move the needle on the world’s most pressing issues—backed by a powerful new fund and a clear blueprint for value creation.
