Netflix alumni-founded Nopan secures €7.2M to scale account-to-account and digital wallet payments across Europe

Amsterdam-based FinTech startup Nopan has raised a total of €7.2 million to accelerate the adoption of account-to-account (A2A) and digital wallet payments across Europe. The latest funding round was led by Newion, with continued backing from Crane, Seedcamp, and several experienced fintech angel investors.

Founded by former Netflix payments executives Konstantin Surkov and Nick Ryabov, Nopan is building what it describes as the first merchant-native payment service provider, helping digital businesses and payment service providers launch, optimize, and scale account-based and digital wallet payment methods.

The fresh capital will support the company’s European expansion, broaden its payment method coverage, enhance its payment optimization technology, and strengthen its commercial presence among enterprise merchants and fintech companies.

Solving the next challenge in digital payments

While launching new payment methods has become increasingly straightforward, ensuring they perform consistently at scale remains a major challenge.

According to Nopan, account-to-account and digital wallet payments are rapidly gaining traction across Europe. New initiatives such as Wero, alongside well-established local payment methods, are reshaping the payments landscape. However, merchants still expect these payment methods to deliver the same reliability, scalability, and customer experience as traditional card payments.

Nopan’s platform addresses this challenge through continuous optimization across:

  • Payment routing
  • Bank connectivity
  • Payment method behavior
  • Operational performance
  • Cross-market payment optimization

By optimizing every stage of the payment journey, the company aims to help merchants improve payment conversion rates, reduce transaction costs, and generate measurable business outcomes.

Backed by experienced investors

The latest investment was led by Dutch venture capital firm Newion, with participation from existing investors Crane and Seedcamp, alongside a group of angel investors with deep expertise in merchant payments and financial technology.

Commenting on the investment, Pieter Welten, Partner at Newion, said:

“Nopan is addressing a clear and growing need in the payments market. Account and wallet payments represent a major opportunity, but the infrastructure required to make them perform at scale is still emerging. With its deep merchant-side payments experience and highly focused technology platform, we believe Nopan is uniquely positioned to become a category leader in this next phase of payments.”

Built by former Netflix payments leaders

Nopan was founded by Konstantin Surkov and Nick Ryabov, who previously led payment initiatives at Netflix and experienced the operational challenges of scaling alternative payment methods firsthand.

“Nick and I experienced first-hand how much value can be created when payment methods are properly optimised,” said Konstantin Surkov, Co-founder and CEO of Nopan.

“Launching a new payment method is only the beginning. The real challenge is making it perform reliably across banks, customer behaviours, operational processes and, where relevant, across markets. Nopan was created to solve exactly that challenge.”

Strong regulatory and market momentum

The company reached several important milestones over the past year.

In the fourth quarter of 2025, Nopan obtained its license from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), enabling it to operate as a regulated payments provider. It also became a Principal Member of the European Payments Initiative (EPI), the organization behind Wero, Europe’s emerging cross-border digital payment solution.

Nopan is already working with its first customers and says it is seeing growing commercial demand from enterprise merchants and payment service providers across Europe.

As account-to-account payments continue to gain market share, the Amsterdam startup aims to position itself as the infrastructure layer that enables merchants to maximize the performance of these next-generation payment methods.
