Swedish healthtech unicorn Neko Health has raised $700 million in a Series C funding round as it prepares to launch its first clinics in the United States later this year, marking one of Europe’s largest healthtech financings in recent years.
The Stockholm-based company, founded by Spotify co-founder Daniel Ek and Hjalmar Nilsonne, will use the new capital to accelerate international expansion, invest in proprietary medical technology, and further develop its AI-powered preventive healthcare platform.
The financing was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and co-led by O.G. Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Atomico, General Catalyst, and Lakestar, alongside new investors including Liberty City Ventures, Positive Sum, and BDT & MSD.
Taking Preventive Healthcare Global
The investment comes ahead of Neko Health’s planned entry into the U.S. market, with its first clinics set to open in New York and additional American cities later this year.
Founded in 2023, the company has rapidly expanded across Sweden and the United Kingdom, operating clinics in Stockholm, London, Manchester, and Birmingham.
Demand continues to grow rapidly.
More than 350,000 people have joined Neko’s waiting list or registered for a health scan, while over 100,000 membershave already completed one. The company’s subscription model also demonstrates strong customer retention, with 75% of members booking and prepaying their next annual scan immediately after their first visit.
A 60-Minute Health Assessment Powered by Proprietary Technology
At the center of Neko Health’s offering is the Neko Health Scan, a comprehensive 60-minute, non-invasive, radiation-free health assessment that combines proprietary hardware, AI-driven analysis, laboratory testing, and in-person medical consultation.
Using millions of health data points collected through custom-built sensors and blood analysis, the scan evaluates:
- Skin health, including moles and potential skin cancer indicators
- Blood biomarkers
- Risk of pre-diabetes
- Cardiovascular disease risk
- Metabolic syndrome indicators
- Circulatory health
Results are delivered during the same appointment and reviewed with a physician, providing patients with personalized recommendations based on their individual health profile.
Building the Entire Technology Stack
Unlike many digital health providers, Neko develops its hardware, software, AI systems, and patient experience entirely in-house.
The company recently introduced the next generation of its proprietary medical devices, including Derma-2, Echo-2, and Spectrum-2, offering improved imaging, greater automation, and higher-resolution health data collection.
The latest version of the Neko Health Scan also integrates wearable device data alongside new body composition analysis, giving clinicians a more comprehensive picture of each patient’s long-term health.
According to the company, controlling every layer of its technology stack enables continuous product improvement and a highly integrated patient experience.
Early Detection Delivering Measurable Results
Neko says its preventive care model is already demonstrating measurable clinical impact.
Among returning members who previously showed severe or potentially life-threatening health conditions, three out of four are now either in good health or have their condition under control.
Across repeat visits, five of seven key health biomarkers have shown statistically significant improvement, suggesting that early detection combined with ongoing monitoring can help patients make meaningful health improvements before disease develops.
Investor Confidence in the Future of Preventive Medicine
The funding round attracted an unusually broad group of investors, entrepreneurs, athletes, and public figures, including Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Maria Sharapova, Tim Ferriss, Thierry Henry, will.i.am, Jimmy Iovine, Ari Emanuel, Claudia Schiffer, Sir Matthew Vaughn, and several existing technology investors.
Lightspeed Venture Partners described Neko as one of the most significant healthcare companies emerging globally.
“Over the past eighteen months, Neko Health has demonstrated remarkable innovation and growth, addressing one of the world’s largest markets with breakthrough technology, proven consumer demand, and a clear path to global scale,” said Bejul Somaia, Global Partner at Lightspeed.
CEO Hjalmar Nilsonne said the new financing validates the company’s long-term vision.
“This funding is a strong vote of confidence in what we set out to do: creating a completely new healthcare experience designed to keep people healthy, catch problems early, and help prevent disease before it even starts.”
Redefining Preventive Healthcare
As healthcare systems increasingly shift their focus from treating illness to preventing it, Neko Health is positioning itself at the forefront of a new generation of technology-enabled medical providers.
By combining proprietary AI, advanced medical hardware, real-time diagnostics, and clinician-led care into a single integrated platform, the company aims to transform routine health screening into a scalable model for preventive medicine—first across Europe and now in the United States.
