Natural Cycles Scores €50.8 Million to Expand Hormone-Free Birth Control Access

Stockholm, Sweden – May 30, 2024 – Natural Cycles, the company behind the world’s first birth control app, has secured €50.8 million in funding to make hormone-free contraception more widely available.

This Series C round was led by Lauxera Capital Partners, with participation from Point72 Private Investments and a credit line from J.P. Morgan. The funds will be used to boost marketing efforts, develop new products, and streamline insurance coverage for the app.

Founded in 2013 by Dr. Elina Berglund Scherwitzl and Dr. Raoul Scherwitzl, Natural Cycles created the first direct-to-consumer birth control app used by over 3 million people globally. It remains the only FDA-cleared (US), CE-marked (Europe), and regulator-approved digital birth control solution available in markets like Canada, Australia, Singapore, and South Korea.

“With women increasingly seeking alternative birth control options, we’ve seen strong growth,” said Dr. Raoul Scherwitzl, Natural Cycles CEO. “This new investment marks an exciting chapter, and we’re thrilled to partner with Lauxera and Point72 to make hormone-free birth control even more accessible while leveraging technology to address gaps in women’s healthcare.”

Natural Cycles recently launched NC° Postpartum, an innovative feature within their app designed to support new mothers during their physical and mental recovery after childbirth. This expands their existing suite of functionalities which includes birth control, pregnancy planning, and pregnancy tracking.

“Lauxera partners with visionary entrepreneurs who are transforming medicine with unique technologies,” stated Samuel Levy, founding partner at Lauxera Capital Partners. “Natural Cycles exemplifies this perfectly, with a profitable business model backed by robust clinical data and regulatory approvals. We’re proud to join Elina, Raoul, and their team in offering women a side-effect-free alternative to traditional birth control methods.”

Levy will join Natural Cycles’ board of directors as part of the investment. Lauxera and Point72 join existing investors like EQT Ventures, Samsung Ventures, Heartcore Capital, Headline, and Bonnier Ventures.
