HELSINKI, Finland — Swedish B2B software investor Monterro has acquired a majority stake in Finnish banking software provider MORS Software, a move designed to accelerate the company’s international expansion, enhance its AI capabilities, and strengthen its position in the European banking technology market.
The investment will support MORS Software’s growth in its largest market—the United Kingdom—while expanding its presence across Europe and accelerating product innovation.
Modernizing Treasury and Risk Management
MORS Software develops integrated Asset Liability Management (ALM), Treasury Management, and Risk Management solutions for banks and financial institutions.
Unlike many legacy banking systems that rely on multiple disconnected platforms, MORS combines treasury management and ALM within a single platform and unified data layer. This enables financial institutions to gain real-time visibility into funding, liquidity, profitability, and risk exposure while reducing operational complexity.
The platform serves a wide range of organizations, including traditional banks, specialist lenders, financing institutions, and digital challenger banks operating across Europe and international markets.
Addressing Growing Banking Challenges
Banks continue to face increasing regulatory requirements while balancing profitability, operational efficiency, and digital transformation. Many institutions still depend on fragmented legacy infrastructure and manual processes that slow decision-making and increase costs.
According to Petri Makkonen, co-founder of MORS Software, the company’s mission has been to make sophisticated treasury and risk management accessible to banks of every size, allowing institutions to spend less time integrating data across systems and more time serving customers and growing their business.
AI to Power the Next Generation of Banking Software
A significant part of Monterro’s investment will be directed toward expanding MORS Software’s artificial intelligence capabilities.
CEO Iina Mustakallio said banks increasingly seek a single source of truth instead of managing multiple disconnected systems. With Monterro’s backing, the company plans to accelerate product development, expand internationally, and invest heavily in AI technologies that will shape the future of treasury and balance sheet management.
Monterro believes MORS’s unified platform architecture provides a strong foundation for AI-driven banking operations by creating richer, centralized data than traditional treasury solutions.
According to Johan Blomdahl, Monterro’s Growth Excellence Lead and the newly appointed Chairman of MORS Software, the future of treasury software will move beyond analytics, with AI actively supporting banks’ treasury and risk management decisions.
Expanding Across Europe
The acquisition marks Monterro’s third majority investment in a Finnish software company, reinforcing the investor’s focus on Nordic B2B software businesses with international growth potential.
MORS Software already maintains a strong customer base throughout Europe, with the United Kingdom representing its largest market, followed by Sweden and Finland.
Together, Monterro and MORS aim to establish the company as a leading provider of integrated treasury, asset liability management, and risk management solutions for banks navigating an increasingly digital and regulated financial landscape.
The deal also reflects growing investor confidence in European FinTech companies developing AI-powered infrastructure for financial institutions, particularly solutions that simplify compliance, improve decision-making, and replace fragmented legacy banking systems.
