CleanTech Weekly: 1KOMMA5° Eyes the US, Epyr Bets on Industrial Heat, and Battery Recycling Gets Real

CleanTech Weekly: 1KOMMA5° Eyes the US, Epyr Bets on Industrial Heat, and Battery Recycling Gets Real

Week of 9–15 October 2026 · CleanTech

This week brought five CleanTech rounds totalling €92M plus $22.5M, from a German unicorn preparing for the US to a Singapore recycler turning old EV batteries back into lithium. France had the busiest week, with two Series A rounds, and Sweden’s energy-storage scene saw a merger between two companies with the same co-founder.

FUNDING

🇩🇪 1KOMMA5° raises €70M at a $1.35B valuation
Hamburg’s home-energy unicorn has added €70M to its war chest. 1KOMMA5° sells solar, batteries, heat pumps and EV charging as a single package, all run by its own energy-management software. The company says the money will fund its expansion into the US, and it is openly talking about an IPO. This was the largest CleanTech round in Europe this week, and it shows that investors still back the integrated home-energy model at scale.

🇫🇷 Epyr closes a €15M Series A for industrial heat storage
French startup Epyr raised a €15M Series A led by SlateVC after a successful industrial deployment of its heat-storage technology. Industrial process heat is one of the hardest parts of the economy to decarbonise. Storing cheap renewable electricity as heat for factories is becoming one of the most closely watched answers, and Epyr now has working hardware in the field to point to.

🇫🇷 CarbonFarm raises €7M to cut methane from rice paddies
Paris-based CarbonFarm closed a €7M Series A led by Colam Impact. The startup targets rice cultivation, whose flooded paddies make it one of agriculture’s largest sources of methane. Methane is a powerful short-lived greenhouse gas, so cuts in this area can slow warming quickly.

🌏 Phase-change materials startup raises $14.9M Series A
A phase-change materials company raised $14.9M to build a fibre production line. Phase-change materials absorb and release heat as they melt and solidify, which makes them useful for thermal regulation in textiles, buildings and batteries. Building a dedicated fibre line suggests the company is moving from lab samples to volume manufacturing.

🇸🇬 Neu Battery Materials raises $7.6M and opens a lithium recovery plant
Singapore’s Neu Battery Materials raised $7.6M and opened a plant that recovers lithium from spent EV batteries. As the first large wave of EVs nears the end of its battery life, recycling capacity outside China is becoming a strategic asset. European players are watching this segment closely.

🇸🇪 Abundry merges with Ertzy
Swedish startup Abundry is merging with Ertzy, an energy-storage and software company, and the two share a co-founder. Ertzy is based in Karlskrona and has shown what it describes as Europe’s first industrial energy storage system based on sodium-ion batteries. Bringing the two teams together should give the combined company more firepower in one of the most closely watched alternatives to lithium.

THE TAKEAWAY

Two themes stood out this week. The first is heat: both Epyr’s storage systems and the phase-change fibre line are bets that thermal energy is an underrated part of the transition. The second is battery circularity and alternative chemistries: Neu’s lithium recovery and Ertzy’s sodium-ion storage both aim to cut dependence on fresh lithium supply. At the top of the market, 1KOMMA5°’s valuation and IPO talk show that late-stage capital for European CleanTech is still available to companies with real revenue.
