Bright Day Graphene Secures €3M Strategic Investment From Japan’s Oji Holdings

Stockholm-based materials technology company Bright Day Graphene has secured €3 million ($3.5 million) in a strategic investment from Japanese pulp and paper giant Oji Holdings Corporation.

The investment marks a strategic partnership between the Swedish graphene company and one of Japan’s major industrial groups, providing Bright Day Graphene with capital and a potential route toward broader industrial applications of its technology.

Developing greener graphene for high-tech applications

Bright Day Graphene develops green graphene designed for use in high-tech applications. The company focuses on producing graphene through more sustainable processes, addressing one of the key challenges surrounding the commercialisation of advanced graphene materials: combining high performance with scalable and environmentally responsible production.

Graphene is increasingly being explored for applications ranging from energy storage and electronics to advanced materials, coatings and composites. Its combination of electrical conductivity, mechanical strength and lightweight properties makes it attractive across multiple industrial sectors.

Bright Day Graphene’s technology aims to make the material more accessible for industrial applications while reducing the environmental footprint associated with conventional graphene production.

Strategic backing from Oji Holdings

The new investment comes from Oji Holdings Corporation, a Japanese company with a long history in pulp and paper manufacturing and a growing interest in new materials and sustainable technologies.

For Bright Day Graphene, the investment represents more than a conventional financing round. Strategic participation from an established industrial company could provide access to expertise, commercial networks and potential applications in large-scale manufacturing.

The partnership also highlights the increasing interest of traditional industrial groups in advanced materials that can support the transition toward more sustainable products and manufacturing processes.

Graphene moves closer to industrial scale

Graphene has long been considered a promising material for next-generation technologies, but cost, production scalability and consistency have remained barriers to widespread adoption.

Strategic investments such as the one secured by Bright Day Graphene point to a broader shift in the sector: industrial players are increasingly looking for materials technologies that can move from laboratory development into commercially viable applications.

With the new €3 million investment, Bright Day Graphene will be positioned to further develop its technology and pursue opportunities in high-tech and industrial markets.

The deal also strengthens Stockholm’s position as a European hub for advanced materials and climate-focused deep tech, where startups are combining scientific innovation with commercial applications aimed at reducing industrial environmental impact.
