BioTech News: Swedish Startup Halmos Labs Joins Y Combinator to Build Automated Biotech R&D

Halmos Labs, a new biotech startup based in Lund, southern Sweden, has joined Y Combinator’s Fall 2026 batch, securing $500K in first funding as part of the accelerator programme.

The Technology

The company is building automated biotech R&D founded on the principles of validity and interpretability, according to its YC profile. That work spans running research and simulations to answer open questions ranging from wetlab experiment design to full cancer vaccine manufacturing.

The Team

Halmos Labs was founded by Mattias Akke and Linus von Ekensteen Löfgren, both holding Master’s degrees in Nanotechnology and Engineering Physics, with previous experience at MIT, AstraZeneca, and Danske Bank.

The Product

While the company itself is named Halmos Labs, its first product will be called Halmos Bio, according to founder Mattias Akke.
