Belgium’s Tech Ecosystem Gets a €6.5 Million Boost from Syndicate One

Brussels, Belgium — Syndicate One, a Brussels-based investment firm, has announced the closure of its debut fund at €6.5 million, marking a significant milestone for the country’s tech ecosystem. The oversubscribed funding round builds on an initial close of €4.5 million in 2023 and aims to amplify support for standout Belgian startups.

Backed by over 100 founders, operators, and entrepreneurial families, alongside contributions from federal and regional governmental funds, this initiative underscores a collective commitment to advancing innovation in Belgium.

Empowering Belgian Founders
Laurens De Poorter, founder of Syndicate One, emphasized the transformative potential of the fund.
“This €6.5 million close is more than just a milestone—it’s a testament to our collective belief in the future of Belgian innovation. Together, we’re empowering the next generation of global tech leaders,” he said.

Founded in 2022, Syndicate One has quickly positioned itself as a key player in Belgium’s tech sector, supporting high-potential startups like Techwolf, Aikido Security, Cosmic Aerospace, and Donna. Its network includes influential founders and operators from successful scale-ups such as Collibra, Deliverect, and Showpad.

A Collaborative Approach
Syndicate One’s strategy focuses on unifying expertise and resources, creating a platform where Belgian founders receive both capital and strategic guidance. Notably, over half of the founders in its portfolio have also invested in the fund, reinforcing the firm’s strong community ties.

In a landmark achievement, Syndicate One has become the first Belgian investment firm to secure backing from four regional governmental funds: PMV (Flanders), SFPIM (federal), Finance&invest.brussels, and Wallonie Entreprendre.

Driving Growth and Success
The fund’s impact is already evident. Roeland Delrue, co-founder of Aikido Security, credited Syndicate One for accelerating the company’s growth.
“Syndicate One has been instrumental in Aikido’s rapid growth, providing not just capital but invaluable expertise and connections,” he noted.

Syndicate One has also contributed to broader ecosystem-building efforts, partnering with anchor investor Sofina and Bain & Co. to release the State of Belgian Tech Report. The report highlights milestones like Odoo’s €5 billion valuation and Lighthouse’s €351 million Series C funding round.

Matthias Geeroms, Co-founder of Lighthouse, emphasized the importance of Belgium’s collaborative tech community.
“In this space, no company succeeds in isolation. Syndicate One’s efforts are building a thriving ecosystem that enables startups to dream big, scale fast, and compete on the global stage,” he said.

A Bright Future for Belgian Tech
As Belgium’s tech ecosystem continues to grow, Syndicate One’s €6.5 million fund represents a powerful catalyst for innovation, aiming to transform Belgian startups into global leaders.
