Swedish Startup Cognivity AI Partners with California Luxury EV Maker to Bring AI Directly Into Battery Systems

Swedish Startup Cognivity AI Partners with California Luxury EV Maker to Bring AI Directly Into Battery Systems

Swedish battery software startup Cognivity AI has announced a new cross-border collaboration with an unnamed California-based luxury electric vehicle manufacturer to explore how decentralized artificial intelligence can be integrated directly into existing battery systems.

The initiative aims to move battery intelligence closer to the hardware itself, allowing AI models to operate on-device rather than relying on continuous cloud connectivity. The project has secured support through Future Mobility, with funding from Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency (Energimyndigheten)

Bringing AI to the Edge

Modern battery management systems increasingly depend on data to optimize performance, predict degradation, and improve safety. However, transmitting large volumes of battery data from vehicles to cloud platforms is often impractical due to bandwidth, cost, and privacy limitations.

Cognivity AI believes decentralized, edge-based AI can overcome these challenges by enabling battery systems to continuously learn and adapt directly on the device. According to the company, this approach could deliver more accurate battery models while reducing dependence on external connectivity.

“By collaborating across borders with a California-based luxury EV manufacturer, we are able to combine Sweden’s strengths in AI and predictive analytics with the fast-moving automotive innovation ecosystem in California,” said Dr. Christian Fleischer, Co-Founder and CEO of Cognivity AI.

Smarter Batteries for the Next Generation of EVs

Founded in Gothenburg, Cognivity AI develops advanced battery intelligence software designed to improve how battery systems understand their real-world operating conditions.

Its platform, TrinityBMS, uses Edge AI to continuously refine battery models locally, helping optimize battery health, performance, and lifespan across mobility, energy storage, defense, and industrial applications.

As electric vehicles become increasingly software-defined, intelligent battery management is emerging as a key competitive advantage. Processing AI directly within battery systems could enable faster decision-making, greater resilience in low-connectivity environments, and more personalized optimization throughout a battery’s lifecycle.

A Startup We’ve Been Watching

Startup Mafia first featured Cognivity AI in September 2025 as one of Europe’s emerging battery software startups. This latest partnership marks another milestone for the Gothenburg company as it expands its presence in the global electric mobility ecosystem.

While the identity of the California-based automaker remains undisclosed, the collaboration underscores growing international interest in AI-powered battery management technologies and highlights Sweden’s strengthening position in next-generation battery software innovation.
