Staer, a Malmö-based startup developing physical AI for autonomous mobile robot fleets, raised €3.5 million ($4.1M) in pre-seed funding last year, although the round was not previously publicly announced.
The pre-seed round was led by Pale Blue Dot, with participation from LDV Capital. Staer is also preparing a second funding round of €4.3 million, expected to close later this year.
Founded by serial entrepreneur Jan Erik Solem, known for selling previous ventures to Apple (2010) and Meta (2020), Staer aims to enable fleets of autonomous robots to operate collaboratively, or “in flocks,” across industrial and commercial environments.
Solem told Swedish Tech News PRO:
“We are facing a huge shift.” He also mentioned that while current applications focus on commercial and industrial customers, defence clients are not ruled out.
The startup’s technology leverages physical AI to coordinate multiple mobile robots, improving efficiency, safety, and adaptability in tasks such as logistics, inspection, and material handling.
