This summer’s blockbuster movie is The Odyssey, Sir Christopher Nolan’s reimagining of the classic story of dystopia (the anger of the Gods) and utopia (the final redemption of Ulysses). This resonates today as we all face an urgent environmental dystopia, so the search is on for solutions that deliver the utopia of inexpensive clean energy.
Estonia is the most entrepreneurial country on earth, with more unicorns (billion-dollar valuation companies) per head of the population than anywhere else. One future Estonian unicorn is Roofit.Solar, whose integrated and modular solar power generation technology is specifically designed for ambitious architects committed to Net Zero.
Legendary architects such as Sir Christopher Wren, Frank Lloyd Wright and Zaha Hadid always combined beauty with practicality, with the clear intention for their buildings to stand forever as a lasting legacy for future generations.
Today, practical solar power represents a specific and timely entrepreneurial opportunity for established architects where trust with their customers has been built up over many years. Roofit.Solar has the compelling strap-line ‘solar power has never looked so good’, which addresses the common concern that solar panels have historically ruined otherwise beautiful buildings.
Roofit.Solar was founded by engineers in Estonia who wanted a photovoltaic solution for their own homes that would generate electricity, look like a normal premium metal roof, last for decades, and avoid the bulky appearance of conventional solar panels.
Today, their panels grace the soon to be opened new National Library of Estonia, an imposing building close to Tallinn’s beautifully restored and maintained medieval city. The solar cells are embedded directly into the metal roofing, making them indistinguishable from regular metal plates so as to preserve the building’s heritage look.

I was also shown a retail unit on an industrial trading estate whose solar cells enabled them to not only cover their own electrical costs, but also sell excess electricity to the Estonian National Grid.
Roofit.Solar have been active in the Canadian market since 2022 and have recently appointed Solantha Energy Ltd. as their Official Partner in Ontario, Canada. Their new product for North America is called Velario® UltraSlim, a mechanical lock standing seam BIPV (Building Integrated Photovoltaic), with North American imperial sizing.
Canada already has standing-seam metal roofs in many regions and colder climates suit metal roofing well. The company’s discreet, architect-friendly appearance also appeals to premium residential projects.
There is also considerable support from the Canadian government for solar power and other clean technologies with direct homeowner grants, business tax incentives, grid investment, and provincial programs.
The Canadian federal government’s flagship incentive for solar are the Clean Technology Investment tax credits for businesses, agricultural operations, and indigenous-owned projects. The credit covers solar photovoltaic equipment, inverters (electronic devices that convert direct current (DC) electricity, (such as that from a battery or solar panel) into alternating current (AC) electricity used by standard household appliances, the mounting systems, battery storage and installation costs.
The Clean Electricity Investment Tax Credits support large electricity projects, including utility-scale solar farms, electricity storage and grid infrastructure. The Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREPs) is a C$4.5 billion federal program funding utility-scale solar, community solar, Indigenous renewable energy projects, battery storage, and grid modernization.
Consumer and business concerns around solar power include the high initial setup price, the long payback time, the manufacturing footprint, sun dependency and recycling issues.
Roofit.Solar provides convincing case studies on their web site to address these, including The University of Tartu, the Naantali Housing Development in Finland, and a large number of architect-designed homes, luxury residential properties, heritage buildings, and premium renovations.
Solantha Energy will showcase Roofit.Solar products at key Canadian trade shows in the coming months through its local distribution partnership. Key events on the schedule include Electricity Transformation Canada in Toronto (Oct 19–21, 2026) and the Canadian Roofing Expo in Mississauga (Jan 19–20, 2027).
Roofit.Solar and their distributors would be pleased to help architects on their Odyssey to a cleaner future, where profit and pleasure are two very desirable business outcomes. I can personally assure you (if you’ve seen the movie) that no wooden horses are involved and the chance of meeting giant cannibals or being turned into pigs are statistically very small.
You only need to be steered away for the siren calls of unscrupulous clean energy suppliers with cheap, short-term solutions. If you do, I am sure the Gods of Architecture, including Christopher Wren, Frank Lloyd Wright and Zaha Hadid will assist your journey to Utopia.
